FC Barcelona search for a new pivot midfielder has led them to focus their attention on Oriol Romeu. A player who is eager to make a return to his boyhood club this summer, according to SPORT.
Oriol Romeu to FC Barcelona
The Catalan giants are in negotiations with Girona to finalize the transfer. Though it seems that Romeu is just waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement. Seemingly so FC Barcelona is reportedly offering the 31-year-old a contract similar to Ilkay Gundogan’s. A contract spanning two years with an option for a third.
Romeu is reportedly pleased with the proposal from Barca and is ready to accept it. The player’s agreement is not expected to pose a problem. Hence Barcelona’s primary focus now is reaching an agreement with Girona regarding the transfer.
Romeu currently has a release clause of €10 million in his contract. FC Barcelona are aiming to reduce that valuation, possibly by half, by including a young player in the deal. Young Estanis Pedrola, could potentially be part of the negotiations. The youngster is highly regarded at Montilivi and is likely to leave Barcelona this summer. Although there has been nothing concrete as of yet.
Barcelona are determined to secure the services of Romeu. With approval from the technical staff and the belief that the operation is feasible. However, incoming director Deco wants to explore other potential options in the market before finalizing the deal.
On the other hand Xavi is eager to wrap up the signing before pre-season begins. This would provide Romeu with ample time to integrate into the team and build chemistry with his new teammates.
As the negotiations unfold, Barcelona remains focused on acquiring the services of Oriol Romeu. A midfield enforcer who could bring valuable experience and stability to their squad. Barca fans and hierarchy would be hopeful of completing this transfer soon. Follow more FC Barcelona related news at Knuckleball.
