Barcelona is aiming to reduce the transfer fee for Yannick Carrasco, Atletico Madrid’s star and summer target. The Catalan club has the option to buy the Belgian winger for €15 million this summer, but they are not willing to pay the agreed fee. Barca wants to sit down with Los Rojiblancos to lower the cost. Carrasco is interested in moving to Camp Nou and would request Atletico to reduce their financial demands.
Barca aims to replicate the same strategy they used in Antoine Griezmann’s case. Atletico initially had a purchase option of €40m, but they managed to lower it to €20m to facilitate the permanent transfer of the Frenchman last October.
The financial crisis continues to take a toll on Barcelona and their transfer stratergies. Hence they are planning to put in similar demands to Atletico for Carrasco in the summer. Although it’s not a mandatory option, Barca doesn’t want to miss out on Carrasco. He has been one of Diego Simeone’s key players since his return to Wanda Metropolitano in 2020.
Carrasco’s versatility to play as a left winger and left wing-back will make him a great addition to Xavi’s side. The left-wing is an area of concern for Barcelona. With Barcelona looking to bring in reinforcements in that area. Having Ousmane Dembele sidelined with injury, and Ferran Toress and Ansu Fati struggling to find momentum.
CONCLUSION
Carrasco’s signing will fix the issue and add more solidity to the attack. A price of around €15m looks reasonable, but it remains to be seen whether Barca will overcome their financial obstacles and comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play ahead of next season.
