Tottenham Hotspur’s Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, has resigned from his position. Following the failure to overturn his ban related to the capital gains controversy. The recent ruling saw Juventus’ 15-point penalty overturned. But Paratici’s ban, along with those of Andrea Agnelli, Maurizio Arrivabene, and Federico Cherubini, remained in place.
Paratici joined Tottenham in June 2021. But his tenure has been marked by the ongoing legal issues surrounding his previous role as Juventus’ Sporting Director. The ban prevented him from performing any football-related activities in Italy. But the ruling also applies to other countries due to UEFA regulations.
The decision has come as a blow to Tottenham, who have had a difficult season both on and off the pitch. The club is currently fifth in the Premier League. They were knocked out of the Europa Conference League in the group stage earlier at the start of the season.
In a statement, Tottenham’s chairman,
Daniel Levy said: This has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family. We wanted to ensure that we allowed for due process to be followed. Fabio is a man who lives and breathes football – we wish him well. As outlined in our year end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as chief football officer to head up all the departments. We shall continue to strengthen our football functions over the coming months.”
Tottenham club statement: “Whilst there continues to be a dispute as to the scope and extent of the ban, the current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our managing director of football. Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC and FIFA rulings.”
The situation highlights the ongoing impact of the capital gains controversy, which has affected several clubs and individuals across Europe. The ruling also raises questions about the future of other individuals affected by the ban and the ongoing legal ramifications of the scandal.
