Barcelona’s poor European form continued as they were eliminated from the Europa League, leaving defender Gerard Pique visibly frustrated. The defeat coincided with the start of the Kings League show on Twitch, where Pique joined as a guest. However, the centre-back was not in the mood for banter and expressed his anger at his team’s performance.
During the chat show, Pique admitted that he had watched the game and called Barcelona’s performance a “fu**ing mess.” Manchester United eliminated the Catalan club from the Europa League after winning the second leg 2-1 at Old Trafford. Interestingly, Pique started his senior football career at Manchester United before returning to Barcelona later in his career.
The Blaugrana had previously failed to progress from the group stage of the Champions League, and have now been eliminated in the Europa League. Barcelona were unable to turn around the tie after drawing the first leg, and the goals from Fred and Antony completed Manchester United’s comeback after Robert Lewandowski had put Barcelona ahead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute.
The loss is a major blow for Barcelona, who have endured difficult European seasons. They are currently sitting at the top of La Liga. 8 points ahead of second-place Real Madrid. Barcelona will now be focusing on securing the domestic treble after already winning the Spanish super cup. They are still in contention for La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
