Real Madrid and Real Sociedad played to a thrilling 0-0 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday night. The home side had several chances to seal the win, but the visitors held strong to escape with a valuable point.
The match began with a fast-paced and open first half. Real Sociedad had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Alexander Sorloth was unable to convert a cross from Aihen Munoz. Real Madrid responded with a chance of their own, as Vinicius Junior fired an effort inches wide of the far post.
As the half progressed, Real Madrid began to take control of the match, putting the visitors under increased pressure. They had their best chance of the first period on the stroke of half time, when Karim Benzema played in Vinicius Junior, whose effort was saved by goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
Real Madrid came out for the second half with much more energy and attacking purpose. They put Real Sociedad under immediate pressure and created several good chances. Vinicius Junior had a fierce effort saved by Remiro, and Madrid continued to suffocate Sociedad with pressure, playing almost exclusively in the final third of the pitch and moving the ball around with incredible speed.
Despite Real Madrid’s dominance, Real Sociedad was able to weather the storm and grew back into the game around the 65th minute. Takefusa Kubo had two chances in the space of five minutes, but both were eventually saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side had their best chance of the game after 70 minutes, when Vinicius Junior skipped past two defenders and attempted to chip Remiro, but the goalkeeper was able to claw it away with a fantastic save.
Real Madrid continued to push forward in numbers for the last ten minutes, but for all their pressure, Real Sociedad defended extremely well and limited the hosts to very little in terms of clear-cut chances.
For Real Madrid FC, it’s two points dropped in a game they feel they had enough chances to win. For Real Sociedad, it’s an impressive point that fires them five points ahead of Atletico Madrid in the Liga table.
