Vedat Muriqi’s header off Real Madrid defender Nacho in the 13th minute proved decisive. Mallorca goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic brought down Vinicius Junior in the 59th minute, earning Real Madrid a penalty. But Rajkovic saved Asensio’s spot-kick, diving to his left.

Real Madrid now sit second in La Liga, five points behind Barcelona. With Barcelona set to play Sevilla, a win would increase the gap to eight points. Real Madrid won the double last year‘, taking both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles.

Mallorca, however, secured a historic win against Real Madrid, their first since 2019 and only their second victory in 14 matches. Los Piratas sit 10th in the league, nine points clear of the relegation zone. This result follows their previous win against Atletico Madrid 1-0 at home this season.
